Why Edinson Cavani Starts Against Burnley
Ralf Rangnick has outlined why Edinson Cavani will lead Manchester United’s attack against Burnley at Turf Moor.
Edinson is making his first start since the 15 January trip to Aston Villa, though he did make an appearance as a substitute against West Ham before the international break.
Edi was permitted to stay in the country a bit longer after playing twice and scoring for Uruguay in recent internationals, so he was unavailable for Middlesbrough’s Emirates FA Cup match on Friday.
Ralf stated Edi’s ‘fighting’ characteristics would come in good against a Burnley team that will be physical from the start when he was quizzed by Stewart Gardner prior to kick-off.
“Well, we played Burnley a couple of weeks ago, and we’ve seen quite a few games here at Turf Moor, so we know that the game will involve a lot of sprinting, fighting for second balls, pursuing balls, and I opted to start with Edi because this type of profile suits Edi.”
Cavani replaces Cristiano Ronaldo, though Rangnick stated that he will play a role in United’s forthcoming matchups, as February is a hectic month for the Reds.
“With the exception of the Middlesbrough game,” Ralf told BT Sport, “we’ve scored enough goals to win games.”
“We don’t have any concerns about Cristiano’s ability to score enough goals. We have a few more games coming up, and Cristiano will need to start them.”
