In the summer transfer window, Benzema opted to depart Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid and join Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad, joining a list of notable players making the move from Europe to the Middle East.

Players like Roberto Firmino, N’Golo Kante, Riyad Mahrez, Aymeric Laporte, and Marcelo Brozovic have also joined the Saudi Professional League alongside Benzema.

Recent reports suggested that Premier League club Manchester United is exploring the possibility of signing Benzema on loan. Additionally, London clubs Chelsea and Arsenal have been linked with the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner.

Now, according to French news outlet L’Equipe, Benzema is expected to stay in Saudi Arabia despite the swirling rumors. Sources close to the 36-year-old reportedly state that he is content and plans to continue with Al Ittihad.

Responding to the Chelsea rumors, former Blues player Pat Nevin commented on OCB Scores, saying, “How many times have Chelsea gone down that route of signing an experienced striker?

You think of the certain strikers that Chelsea have signed in the latter stages of their career, the likes of Shevchenko, I could go through a number of them.”

Nevin added, “They are all brilliant but very few of them scored a lot of goals for the club. On the other hand, if you are creating a number of chances which Chelsea are, maybe you just need someone who can put the ball in the net.

It’s such a short-termist thing and it’s so against what the ethos has been from the club. It would be surprising but does it mean it won’t happen? Absolutely not.

It would be interesting but Evan Ferguson would be the more obvious one to go for.”
