According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United and Bruno Fernandes have agreed on a new five-year contract.

THE DETAILS: SUMMER CHANGES AT MAN UTD

It’s been another forgettable season at Old Trafford, with all attention now on next season and a summer reshuffling.

A new manager appears to be on the way to replace Ralf Rangnick, while several players are expected to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season.

Fernandes isn’t one of them, but it appears that United executives have been working hard to extend his contract, which presently runs until 2025.

ROMANO’S LATEST UPDATE ON FERNANDES

Romano, who reported on Thursday that there had been a “breakthrough” in talks, delivered an update on Saturday morning.

He stated that the new deal will be “valid for the next five years,” that Fernandes has “already accepted” the idea, tweeting:

“Bruno Fernandes’ new deal with Manchester United is for five years.” Bruno has already accepted; now it’s only a matter of completing the papers and signing. As previously announced, an agreement has been reached.”

THE VERDICT: EXCELLENT MOVE

Even if the Red Devils’ season hasn’t been noteworthy, Fernandes has stood out on an individual level. The 27-year-old has scored 23 goals in 37 outings and is the club’s best-rated Premier League performer among players who have made two or more appearances. [WhoScored]

He leads the league in critical passes per game and has a match rating of 7.13/10, so a new long-term contract appears to be a wise move as United looks to the future.
