Since joining AS Monaco from Bordeaux in January 2020, Aurelien Tchouameni has established himself as one of the top midfielders in Ligue 1. In this period, the young French international has emerged as a crucial figure for both club and country, having secured a foothold in Les Bleus’ system in the previous year.

The 22-year-old had a strong 2021/22 season for AS Monaco, appearing 45 times in all competitions and contributing three goals and two assists. Tchouameni’s success has not gone unnoticed, with several of Europe’s best teams, like Real Madrid and Chelsea, expressing interest in him.

Real Madrid’s interest derives from the numerous uncertainty surrounding Dani Ceballos and Isco’s futures. Simultaneously, the rising ages of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are compelling Real Madrid to invest in a midfielder who can be a long-term solution in the middle of the park.

Tchouameni is thus a possible target for Real Madrid, with the player eager to join the club during the summer transfer window. However, Los Blancos will face tough competition from Chelsea to sign the 22-year-old French international, particularly if the Blues’ ownership crisis is sorted.

If the situation allows, Chelsea will need to sign a holding midfielder shortly, with Jorginho prominently connected with a return to Serie A. With N’Golo Kante nearing the end of his career, Real Madrid’s need for a midfield reinforcement has increased, making Tchouameni a feasible target.

According to recent sources, Real Madrid and Chelsea are the frontrunners to recruit Tchouameni, who is valued by AS Monaco at roughly €65 million. The Merengues, on the other hand, appear to be in the lead in the battle to sign the youngster, as they are in advanced talks to capture his services.

It will be fascinating to see if Real Madrid is put off by the €65 million price tag, especially since Erling Haaland is a key target for Los Blancos. Chelsea’s ownership position will certainly be a key issue to watch as this transfer story unfolds.
