The news comes about a week after Erik ten Hag met with the club following Ajax’s 3-2 triumph over Feyenoord last Saturday.

Ten Hag is said to have impressed United’s administration with his ideology and vision for the club.

The 52-year-old also inquired about the club’s transfer plans and budget in order to obtain a better understanding of the situation at Old Trafford.

According to certain rumors, Ten Hag is currently waiting to be offered the post and is ready to start this summer.

However, he is not the only name in the running, with Mauricio Pochettino, Julen Lopetegui, and Luis Enrique also in the running.

Andy Mitten reported on the United We Stand podcast that United has spoken to three candidates for the role, two in addition to Ten Hag.

The identities of those managers are unknown, but United is now ramping up its recruitment efforts.

There is hope that a new manager will be named before the end of the season.

Pochettino is already thought to have had talks with Murtough, however, there has been no follow-up following the conversation.

When seeking an interim manager in November, United conducted a thorough interview procedure.

Ralf Rangnick was victorious, and he will move up to a consulting role at the end of the season.

Other candidates examined included Ernesto Valverde, Rudy Garcia, Lucien Favre, and Paulo Fonseca.

In an interview with The Mirror, Sammy McIlroy, the last of the Busby Babes, highlighted exactly what United should be searching for if history is any guide…

“It’s difficult to put into words what Manchester United’s DNA means,” McIlroy added. “I can only describe it as an emotion.” It comes from immediately understanding and connecting with the club and what the club means to the fans.

“It is true that a United manager must not just win, but the team must also play with a certain style, a swagger.” I recall Sir Matt telling his players before a game, “These supporters have worked all week and they have paid their money to be entertained.” ‘Go out there and amuse them.’

“But it’s about knowing the club’s history, about the aircraft accident in Munich and Best, Charlton, and Law – and also about the tradition United has always had of giving their own young players a chance.” It’s also being aware of what’s going on right now. Sir Matt appeared to know everyone at the football club, from the ladies who washed the gear to the groundsman and those who swept the stands. He only knew them by their first names.

“Sir Alex is cut from the same cloth. They wanted everyone to feel significant to Manchester United as if when the club won on a Saturday afternoon, they had all contributed. There are numerous variables that contribute to what it means to be a Manchester United fan. But you know when you know. It’s the most exciting sensation in football.”
