In the wake of rumors about the future of captain Harry Maguire, Rio Ferdinand has identified Araujo of Barcelona and Uruguay as one of two possible signings United should make. Along with PSG and Brazil’s Marquinhos, the United legend has named him as a possible suitor.

Ferdinand told Vibe with Five, “I would sign Marquinhos.” “I’d sign the Uruguayan [Araujo] at Barcelona.”

Since joining the Catalans from Uruguayan side Boston River in 2018, Araujo has made 52 league appearances for the club, and the 22-year-old has become one of Europe’s most in-demand centre-backs in recent weeks. He scored in Xavi’s side’s 4-0 victory over La Liga leaders Real Madrid in Sunday’s El Clasico, and Pellistri has praised him after their La Liga and national team matches.

“He (Araujo) is a beast physically and with the ball,” Pellistri said of Araujo in a positive remark to ESPN. I get along swimmingly with him, and I feel at ease having him by my side.”

As he near the end of his contract at Camp Nou, Araujo has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with the Catalan giants’ attempts to lock him down to a lengthier term proving fruitless so far.

Ferdinand went on to say about United’s defensive issues: “There are times in your career, and Harry Maguire is experiencing one right now, when everything you do appears to be a fault or a mistake. Every blunder you make is emphasized and penalized.

“Throughout my career, I’ve committed mistakes that either didn’t result in a goal, the keeper rescued me, or [Nemanja] Vidic made a tackle. That’s how it works in groups. Maguire will need a little bit of luck to come out of his current slump.”
