Ronaldo, 37, increased his season tally to 21 goals against the Canaries, capping off his match-winning performance with a magnificent free-kick.

According to the Sun, Ronaldo was awarded £750,000 for reaching the 20-goal threshold, which activated a new clause that sees Ronaldo pocket £100,000 every time he scores, bringing his total prize for the afternoon to £850,000.

According to the source, the striker will receive an additional £1 million if he finishes the season as United’s top scorer, which is almost inevitable. Ronaldo will ‘pocket roughly £2.75m in total payments’ if he scores 30 goals, on top of his salary.

“I don’t think we need to talk about Ronaldo’s performance today,” United interim manager Ralf Rangnick said of the hat-trick hero.

“Another hat-trick, like the one he scored against Tottenham, made the difference, and at least two of them, the second and third, were not simple to score.”

Despite his crucial contributions at key moments, this season, many United executives want Ronaldo to go at the end of the season.

This is due to Ronaldo’s unwillingness to press in Erik ten Hag’s high-octane system, who is poised to be chosen as the club’s new manager.

“In the end, it’s not my decision,” Rangnick said of Ronaldo’s future. “He has another year on his contract, and it’s one for the new manager and board to take on.”

“However, he showed against Tottenham and today how he can be the difference.” It’s no surprise that he has the best scoring record in history.”

The triumph takes United to within three points of the top four, resurrecting hopes of Champions League qualifying after Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur had poor performances.

United’s next game, though, is a trip to Anfield to face high-flying Liverpool, and Rangnick believes his squad will have to do much better to come away with anything.

“Everyone saw today’s game and knows what kind of team we’re going to play next,” he remarked. “They recently beat Manchester City and have a chance to win four trophies.”

“If we keep playing like this, it will be tough to get even a point.” This is something we must be realistic about and mindful of. We need to elevate our expectations.”
