After exposing the club’s plans to a fan, Ralf Rangnick appears to have revealed Jesse Lingard would leave Manchester United this year.

Lingard’s future has been the subject of much conjecture in recent months, with his possibilities for game time at Old Trafford becoming increasingly limited.

He’s been linked with a loan transfer elsewhere this month, with both Newcastle and West Ham keen, though latest reports suggest a prospective move to St James’ Park is on the danger of collapsing.

Lingard, who had a good loan spell with West Ham last season, was retained by United throughout the summer transfer window despite being linked with a permanent move to the London Stadium.

Since then, though, he has only played a minor role in United’s season, with the majority of his appearances coming from the bench.

It remains to be seen if he will go on loan before the end of the January transfer window, but it appears to be a foregone conclusion that he will leave the club in the summer — when his contract expires — after Rangnick confirmed the decision.

The interim manager of Manchester United was caught signing autographs outside Old Trafford for a TikTok video by user PhezTheRed.

The supporter tells Rangnick in the video: “We can’t sell Lingard, Ralf. Please, because he’s my favorite player. He’s got United on the brain.”

Rangnick then looked up and said, “He’ll be leaving in the summer.”

Lingard has been heavily linked with a move to Newcastle in recent days, but sources suggest that United has vetoed the Magpies’ proposal, leaving Lingard’s near future uncertain.
