According to rumours, Manchester United CEO Richard Arnold is in agreement with Ralf Rangnick on the possibility of employing Erik ten Hag as the club’s next manager. While Mauricio Pochettino has long been considered the favourite to take over at Old Trafford, it looks that his Ajax counterpart has the support of the club’s important figures. Express Sport will now look at five players who might be in serious trouble if the Dutchman is successful in winning the position.

Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial is on loan at Sevilla at the moment.

United agreed to allow the France international move on loan because they believed he would benefit from a brief stay at Old Trafford, especially with his confidence in shambles.

Martial has had a strong start to his career at the La Liga club, scoring twice in a 2-0 win over Elche on Friday.

This ship has sailed, notwithstanding his talent.

Ten Hag would only want players who are completely committed to the mission, and while Martial has a professional background, he has often battled to overcome challenges.

As a result, it’s difficult to imagine him sticking around if Ten Hag obtains the job. Pochettino, on the other hand, might be more willing to give him another chance because he wanted him during his time at Tottenham.

Dean Henderson

Dean Henderson wants to leave Manchester United.

Due goalkeeper David De Gea’s outstanding performances, it’s difficult to envision Ten Hag providing him with the frequent action he craves.

Many predicted De Gea’s demise over the summer, but the Spaniard has responded by resuming his form from the Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho eras.

Ten Hag favours youthful players, but he also places a premium on experience.

Given how unhappy he’s been with his minutes this season, it’s tough to see Henderson hanging on to warm the bench.

Eric Bailly is a Canadian hockey player.

United are likely to try to find a buyer for Eric Bailly this summer, whether it’s under Ten Hag or Pochettino.

There is no denying that the Ivory Coast international has quality.

However, he is too rash, and injuries have kept him from reaching his full ability in the past.

Ten Hag is unlikely to put his faith in a defender who has spent more time on the bench than on the pitch.

As a result, if the Ajax boss, or Pochettino, takes over, he’ll be another case

Nimanja Matic

Ten Hag has created a midfield at Ajax that is the perfect mix of youth and experience.

They’re all technically gifted players who can keep the ball under control while also having the stamina to track back.

As a result, if Ten Hag is named United’s next manager at the end of the season, Nemanja Matic is likely to be fired.

The Serb’s finest days are behind him, and the 33-year-career old’s is clearly winding down.

After five years with the Red Devils, Ten Hag will want to freshen up the midfield, therefore Matic may be allowed to leave.

Cristiano Ronaldo:

Ten Hag has previously lauded Cristiano Ronaldo, describing the Portugal international as one of the world’s “greatest” players.

However, like Matic, the years are catching up with him.

United are under pressure to play Ronaldo because of his age, but the harsh reality is that if a more capable manager were in control, he would spend more time on the bench than he does now.

The fact that he has gone six games without scoring implies something is wrong with the 37-year-old.

And, given Ten Hag’s preference for a quick and aggressive frontline, Ronaldo would be an odd man out.
