Cristiano Ronaldo scored his first goal for Manchester United against Brighton on Tuesday night, putting an end to his goal drought. In his previous six outings across all competitions, the Portugal international had failed to score. Fans have reason to be optimistic about the future now that he’s broken his barrel spell.

On Tuesday night, it was like the old Ronaldo.

While United were not at their best, the Portugal international created a moment of magic out of thin air to shatter Brighton’s tenacious defence.

He was known for his characteristic right-foot strike, which he displayed at United, Real Madrid, and Juventus over the years.

It evidently meant a lot to the 37-year-old, who forgot to perform his typical Siu celebration as Old Trafford rose as one to welcome their saviour.

Ronaldo’s current incarnation has proven a stumbling block. However, now that he’s scored, history says that his fans may anticipate him to improve even more.

The last time he went six games without scoring was during Sir Alex Ferguson’s tenure as manager in 2008/09.

It had been a seven-match drought before Ronaldo scored twice in a 5-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion on a rainy night at the Hawthorns.

The Portugal international’s confidence soared after he pulled that duck off his back, and he never looked back.

Ronaldo scored eight goals in his remaining 16 league appearances that season, assisting his team to a third consecutive league title.

He scored penalties against Everton and Liverpool, as well as braces against Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur, before failing to score against Blackburn and Manchester City.

In the FA Cup, Ronaldo scored against Derby in a 4-1 victory at Old Trafford.

He also had a solid finish to the season in the Champions League.
