Manchester United returned to winning ways on Sunday, defeating Everton 2-1, to get their season back on track, with Erik ten Hag’s side now facing a flurry of games.

However, PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo is now reportedly performing a transfer U-turn ahead of a move to Leeds United, following up on the maximum points haul against the Toffees. Brentford, on the other hand, has dealt the Red Devils a blow in the form of Ivan Toney, while Paul Scholes has responded to his “one trick pony” attack on Antony.

Transfer of Cody Gakpo Man United is on high alert after a U-turn.

Man United have received a significant boost after it was revealed that transfer target and PSV winger Gakpo is ‘no longer eager on a move to Leeds, despite having agreed on personal terms.

Personal terms had recently been agreed and Leeds had initiated talks with PSV over their £30 million valuation of the 23-year-old, but The Athletic has reported that the Dutchman has made a transfer U-turn as he seeks a move to a bigger club.

Gakpo’s form this season has created numerous opportunities, with Arsenal and Real Madrid previously expressing interest, and he hopes to utilize the World Cup as a platform to put himself on the market.

Brentford signed Ivan Toney to a new contract.

Brentford is preparing to offer star striker Toney a new deal to keep him at the club after a great start to the season.

This comes as a significant blow to Manchester United, who had previously been connected with a deal for the former Newcastle United forward, while the west London club is anxious to prevent the Red Devils from signing him.

The Bees want to reward his progress with improved terms — thought to be in the six figures per week — that will keep him happy in west London after he scored five goals in eight Premier League games this season, earning him an England call-up.

Paul Scholes responds to the phrase “one trick pony” jibe

Former Manchester United midfielder Scholes was left with egg on his face after Antony scored his third Premier League goal in as many games on Sunday night at Goodison Park.

Scholes had previously described Antony as a “one trick pony” following last week’s tense 3-2 Europa League victory against Cypriot team Omonia Nicosia, stating the Brazilian exclusively cuts back on his left foot upon receiving the ball.

However, Antony’s goal against Everton over the weekend saw him break club history after scoring in each of his first three Premier League games, causing Scholes to send a light-hearted message on Instagram with a picture of Antony and his “one-trick pony” quip, with the caption “Whoops!”
