The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move for the English International in the  upcoming transfer window as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba who is set to leave the club at the end of his contract.

United have already started working on a deal to sign the midfielder, as reported by top news outlet in April.

However, while talking to Vibe with Five YouTube channel as quoted by Metro, Rio Ferdinand said that Phillips’ name should not be associated with United considering the rivalry between the clubs.

“I don’t think Kalvin Phillips is a name that should be associated with Manchester United,” Rio said.

“I just think he’s a Leeds boy. The rivalry between the fans, his family are all there. It’s different to when I left, I had no family in Leeds other than my cousin.

“It wasn’t a problem for them. It was very different. I don’t see Kalvin Phillips going to Manchester United. If he does it will be the biggest surprise.” He concluded.
