Exclusive: Man United snubbed transfer of world class forward, he’ll have bargain release clause at new club

Manchester United were approached about signing Paulo Dybala this summer, but he was not one of their top priority.

The Argentina international became a free agent after his contract with Juventus expired, and he has now joined Roma, with the transaction revealed yesterday.

Fabrizio Romano stated in his exclusive CaughtOffside column on Substack that Dybala was offered to Manchester United this summer, but they decided not to pursue a trade, and that he had no additional Premier League offers.

This is quite surprising given Dybala’s celebrity and availability for free, but if it’s any consolation, the 28-year-old might be available for a discount release clause in the future.

“Despite the rumours, no Premier League club made any actual proposals; Dybala had been offered to Man United by his representatives, but the club had other priorities,” Romano said of Dybala’s situation.

“His Roma contract has a release clause worth roughly €20 million, but Roma has the option to renew and “stop” it under specific conditions.”

It would be intriguing to see if Dybala can resurrect his career at the Stadio Olimpico and if this leads to future Premier League interest.

United fans will be disappointed if he has a successful season, as the club could have used an upgrade on inconsistent performances like Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial this summer.
