With Fernandinho set to leave the club at the end of the season and Ilkay Gundogan struggling with injuries in recent months, Pogba represents an affordable way for Pep Guardiola to reinforce his midfield.

Manchester City are on course to win the Premier League, but they were knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid this week. Guardiola will be hoping that this summer’s signings will take City closer to Europe’s biggest prize.

Pogba on the other hand refused a new contract offered earlier by Manchester United as he was said to be looking for a new challenge.

The French midfielder joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2016 for a then record fee of £89million.

The midfielder then went on to win the Europa League and League Cup on his first season and hasn’t gotten his hand on another cub silverware since then.
