Manchester City is allegedly close to completing a deal for Kalvin Phillips, who will undergo a medical with the Premier League champions on Friday.

The 26-year-old England midfielder came up through the Leeds United junior system before thriving under former Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Phillips has 233 senior appearances for Leeds, becoming an important player for the Whites and a fan favorite.

His brilliance, however, did not go unnoticed, with many clubs interested in signing the intriguing midfielder.

According to Sky Sports, West Ham made a £50 million approach for Phillips during the January transfer window, and Manchester United was reportedly interested in signing him.

According to Football Insider, the 26-year-old will shortly finalize his deal with Manchester City following a physical on Friday.

According to the report, City is paying an initial £45 million, with add-ons bringing the total to roughly £50 million, and he is likely to quadruple his salary with a move to the Etihad Stadium.

Leeds fans will undoubtedly be disappointed to see a star player depart, especially with Raphinha still on the verge of leaving.

Many would argue that a move to City would be disastrous for Phillips because he would almost certainly start every game at Leeds as long as he stayed fit, whereas he would almost certainly be second to Rodri for City.

With the Qatar World Cup in 2022 rapidly approaching, the England international would undoubtedly benefit from as much playing time as possible to earn his place in Gareth Southgate’s squad.
