“I’d be surprised…” – Former Man Utd star questions if Neymar would add anything to any of the PL’s big six

Neymar’s future at Paris Saint-Germain appears to be in doubt this summer, but does he stand a chance of making a major move to the Premier League?

That would have been a no-brainer a few years ago, but it’s not obvious that PSG will have that many suitors lining up for the Brazil international now that he’s available, according to ESPN.

Former Manchester United midfielder Luke Chadwick revealed to CaughtOffside why, despite Neymar’s exceptional natural talent, he doesn’t see the former Barcelona man joining Man Utd or any of the other big six teams this summer.

“It’s an interesting one because he’s undoubtedly one of the top players in the world and has been for a long time,” Chadwick remarked. “But when you consider what comes with Neymar in terms of resources and potentially needing to create your team around him… The strongest Premier League clubs right now are founded on a strong work ethic, both in and out of possession.

“You look at Manchester City or Liverpool and wonder if he’d really add that much to what they’ve got, not because of his ability, which is undeniable, but if he’s got the mindset at this point in his career to do the work that the other players at those teams do.”

“I’d be surprised to see him in the Premier League, and certainly I’d like to see him play here because he’s such an exciting player, but given the expense of the agreement and all that comes with it, I’m not sure he’d be at the top of the shopping list for the major six clubs.”

“With the experience of Paul Pogba in recent years, I’m not sure Neymar is someone Erik ten Hag would be seeking to bring in at this time.”

“When you look at what United needs, certainly Neymar would offer them a lot when he’s on the ball, but when you look at what’s needed off the ball, and the kind of hoopla and fanfare that a huge name like him would bring, I don’t believe it’s a deal United would pursue.”
