Since being signed from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020 after a lengthy transfer chase by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Portuguese midfielder has been a standout performance. With 28 goals in 58 games across all competitions last season, he helped the club return to the Premier League top four.

With the termination of Solskjaer and the hiring of Ralf Rangnick as temporary manager while the club searches for a permanent replacement, this season has been even more difficult. Despite the uncertainty in the dugout, club executives have rewarded Fernandes with a new contract that puts him among the club’s highest earners.

Fernandes’ new contract is expected to pay him about £250,000 per week and will last until June 2026, with a one-year extension option. When Fernandes originally joined the club, he signed a five-and-a-half-year contract. His new deal only extends him for one more season, but it includes a pay raise in recognition of his outstanding performances.

“I’ve had a special bond with Manchester United and our fantastic fans since the day I joined,” Fernandes stated. I grew up following this squad and dreamed of one day being able to play for them. That dream has become a reality, as well as an honor.

“Stepping out at Old Trafford, hearing the supporters shout my song, and scoring in front of the Stretford End feels wonderful even after two years.” Wearing this shirt and fighting for our fantastic club is a true honor.

“I have so much more I want to accomplish here, and I know the rest of the squad and staff feel the same way.” Above all, we aim to provide the fans with the success they deserve.

“Over the last few years, we’ve experienced some incredible moments, but the best is yet to come from myself and this team.”

“Everyone is well aware of Bruno’s importance to Manchester United,” said Manchester United football director John Murtough. His goal and assist record is incredible, and he has been a rock-solid performer since joining the club.

“Bruno’s work ethic, devotion, and positive attitude are all qualities we look for in a Manchester United player. He is the consummate professional, possessing a plethora of outstanding qualities that enable him to maintain the high standards required to play for this illustrious club.

“Bruno, like everyone else at the Football Club, is driven by a desire to achieve long-term success on the field and return us to title contention.”
