Harry Maguire set for Manchester United position change following Leicester experiment

Ralf Rangnick has explained why Harry Maguire’s position was changed for Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Leicester on Saturday evening. United were beaten to a 1-1 stalemate by Leicester City at Old Trafford, putting their top-four chances in jeopardy once more.

The performance of club captain Maguire, who returned in style after being booed by England fans during the international break, was one of the few bright spots in the game.

The 29-year-old put up a strong performance against his former club, albeit in a little different capacity than the one he previously had.

Maguire was switched from his preferred left-sided centre-back position to a right-sided one, giving him more passing options.

Rangnick praised the England international’s performance in the new role and predicted that the tactical shift will be permanent in the future.

“We’ve been talking about it since I arrived since he loves to play on the left side despite being right-footed,” Rangnick remarked after the game.

“And now, having seen him play for England in a back four on the right side last week, I’ve decided that he should play on the right side, which is better for him anyhow when we open up the game from our backline for him as a right-footed player.”

“From there, I think it’ll be a lot easier for him to play.”
