According to The Athletic, Pogba will be permitted to leave in one way or another, with Ralf Rangnick poised to be installed as interim manager.

Pogba’s future is likely to be decided in a ruthless manner.

Pogba did not fit into Rangnick’s style of play, according to a 2017 report

He informed Goal that he had a better player for his team, Liverpool’s Naby Keita, who has since underperformed in England.

“I wouldn’t swap Keita for Pogba for our style of play,” Rangnick remarked.

This suggests that Rangnick does not think Pogba is a good fit for his high-pressing style of play. This comes as no surprise to anyone who has followed the Frenchman at United for the previous five years.

Rangnick may now adjust his tactics to fit Pogba in and make advantage of his talents, or spend time coaching the midfielder to develop him, now that he has Pogba at his disposal.

However, with Rangnick’s short-term current duty and an eye on the future, and Pogba’s contract expiring, a temporary on-pitch solution appears to hold little appeal.

Rangnick’s appointment is all about establishing the foundation for future success, and with Pogba refusing to commit to United and apparently not being a good match for the manager’s system, a split appears to be on the cards.

Pogba’s departure would be ruthless, but it would solve the conundrum and clear the way for the next permanent manager, as well as perhaps bringing in some finances in January
