Fernandes’ new contract with the Premier League team would keep him at the club until June 2026, with an option to extend for another year.
Since joining United from Sporting Lisbon in 2020, the Portugal international has scored 49 goals and provided 39 assists in just 117 games.
Fernandes is one of United’s most significant players and has already won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award twice. He thinks there is’so much more’ he wants to do at United.
Since joining at Old Trafford, Fernandes has matured into one of Europe’s top players, although he has yet to win a trophy with United, who are now sixth in the Premier League.
‘From the moment I joined Manchester United, I have had a particular relationship with the club and our fantastic fans,’ Fernandes stated after committing his long-term future to the club.
‘I grew up admiring this team and dreaming of one day being able to play for them.’ That dream has become a reality, as well as an honor.
‘It still feels incredible to walk out at Old Trafford, hear the supporters shout my song, and score in front of the Stretford End after two years.’ Wearing this shirt and fighting for our fantastic club is a true honor.
‘There is so much more I want to accomplish here, and I know the rest of the squad and staff feel the same way.’ Above all, we aim to provide the fans with the success they deserve.
‘Over the last few years, we’ve experienced some incredible moments, but the best is yet to come from myself and this crew.’
Manchester United will face Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday.
