Maguire made his England debut against the Ivory Coast on Tuesday night, and he was booed by the home crowd before kick-off, as well as when he touched the ball for the first time. After the game, Gareth Southgate was not pleased with the boos: “I thought the response was a laugh, an absolute farce,” he remarked. “He’s been simply wonderful for us in the way he’s performed.”

Maguire’s boos has made headlines this week. Rodgers was asked about the player ahead of Leicester’s visit to Old Trafford on Saturday. The centre-back has been out of form for United this season, regularly appearing lacking of confidence.

When Rodgers took over at Leicester in the summer, Maguire had already signed for United, and he backed him to succeed. “My question is, what benefit does it provide?” “You are there to support by the essence of the word supporter,” Rodgers explained.

“I felt sorry for him [Maguire].” He’s a fantastic individual. He have the necessary tools to conquer it. You must be tenacious. At a major club, all eyes are on him. He’s a tough cookie. Harry has been a fantastic international player for England over the last three or four seasons.

“Perhaps it’s simply the modern world, but patience is in short supply these days.” It serves no purpose for a player. You stand by me in good times and bad.

“They [United] have world-class players who can alter the game’s outcome.” We’ve had a strong recent record against them. You must play at the greatest tactical level possible. We have to be aggressive because they are playing at home.”
