Manchester United have already spent more than £200 million in the summer transfer window, but Erik ten Hag may not be ready to close the books just yet.

Antony became the club’s latest big-money signing earlier this week, joining from Ajax in an £85 million deal, putting an end to one of the window’s longest-running transfer sagas. He joined Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, and Casemiro at the 13-time Premier League champions, who could still be active today.

With the Sky Sports News ticker…well…ticking down and those iconic yellow ties fresh off the hangers, Daily Star Sport looks at six players who could wind up at Manchester United by the end of Deadline Day.

  1. Cody Gakpo

There’s no place like home for Ten Hag, who has already raided the Eredivisie for three promising young players. And he could return a fourth time to sign PSV attacker Cody Gakpo.

Gakpo, who had 12 goals and 12 assists last season, stated last week following PSV’s 6-1 win over Excelsior that a move to United was a “serious option.” He stated: “However, United is a viable alternative. I can hear everything.”

The Dutchman also stated that United’s pursuit of Antony would have no influence on his own future, raising the prospect of a move to Old Trafford. The Red Devils will face stiff competition for his signature, with Leeds, Arsenal, Fulham, and Southampton all interested.

2. Sergio Dest.

Ten Hag clearly has favorites. After signing former Ajax winger Antony earlier this week, there’s a decent chance he’ll be reunited with Sergino Dest as well.

During the 2019-20 season, the Dutchman led Dest in the Dutch capital before the 21-year-old joined Barcelona in an £18 million deal. On Tuesday, it was reported that United was considering a move for the right-back, who has not been named to either of Xavi’s teams for Barcelona’s three league games this season.

Dest’s signing would fix United’s right-back problem and allow Aaron Wan-Bissaka to depart on loan, with West Ham and Crystal Palace also keen on signing him.

3. Osimhen Victor

United have made some good signings throughout the transfer season, but they still lack a true center-forward. Ten Hag requires a goalscorer with Ronaldo’s future unknown, regardless of whether he ends the day at Old Trafford.

Victor Osimhen of Napoli may be that man. Recent reports have claimed that the 23-year-old, who has 30 goals in 65 games for the Italian club, could join the Red Devils on loan, with Ronaldo heading the other way.

Even if Ronaldo does eventually leave Old Trafford, Osimhen’s involvement in a hypothetical transaction is difficult. Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti has indicated that the Nigeria international will cost around £85 million, bringing United’s summer outlay to more than £300 million.

“I believe that if a club gives you €100 million, it is difficult to say no. Since I arrived, all of the players have been competing for the best price “said Spalletti

4. Marco Asensio

Rumors linking United with a deal for Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio have died down since Antony’s arrival, but the Red Devils might still make a move for the 26-year-old.

“Marco Asensio has been offered by his agent to numerous prominent English teams, including Arsenal and Manchester United, in the previous two weeks,” transfer expert Fabrizio Romano stated on Tuesday.

While Romano admitted that Asensio’s prospects of joining United are now remote with the completion of Antony’s drawn-out transfer, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him join United, with Real Madrid apparently willing to accept £25 million for the ace.

5. Thomas Meunier

Ten Hag’s search for a right-back could bring him to Borussia Dortmund defender Thomas Meunier. The former PSG man is expected to be allowed to depart the German club as they attempt to reduce their pay cost.

The Red Devils’ manager is said to like Meunier and regard him as a trustworthy defender. A deal for the 30-year-old star, though, will most likely be contingent on the future of Wan-Bissaka, who has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford before the transfer window shuts.

6. Memphis Depay,

Memphis Depay, the Barcelona forward, might make a spectacular return to Old Trafford before the transfer window closes this evening.

The 28-year-old played for United between 2015 and 2017, but fell short of expectations and moved on to Lyon, where he shined and earned a move to Barcelona. Despite scoring 13 goals for the Catalan giants last season, it has been suggested that he is free to depart the Nou Camp now that Robert Lewandowski has arrived.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Depay is “considering an offer” to return to the Red Devils and play under Ten Hag.
