According to reports, Manchester United was approached about nine signings during the summer transfer season, including Memphis Depay and Christian Pulisic. Manchester United rebounded from a difficult start by adding six new players to their team.

However, Fabrizio Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, has disclosed that they were given nine other players instead, only to turn them down.

Depay was reportedly one of the players offered to United.

Between 2015 and January 2017, the Barcelona star spent 18 months in Manchester, working under Louis van Gaal before being released by Jose Mourinho.

However, with the Red Devils opting to sign Antony from Ajax instead, a deal for the 28-year-old was ruled out.

United was also approached about Pulisic, who has battled with consistency since leaving Borussia Dortmund for Chelsea in the 2019 summer transfer window.

The USA international was on Mourinho’s radar when he was in charge, but he ultimately stayed at Chelsea.

According to Romano, United was also promised Leandro Paredes and Sergino Dest, but the duo ended up joining Juventus and AC Milan, respectively.

Weston McKennie of Juventus was also mentioned, but it appears the Red Devils were more interested in signing Casemiro from Real Madrid.

Yannick Carrasco appeared as a viable target due to his excellent play for Atletico Madrid, but his arrival meant he was no longer chased.

United was also given the chance to sign Thomas Meunier, Moises Caicedo, and Hirving Lozano, but the trio chose to stay at Borussia Dortmund, Brighton, and Napoli, respectively.

Every summer, United is linked with a slew of players.

And, in the end, they’re pleased with their transfer window, despite missing out on Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong, who was initially their top target.

It remains to be seen whether United pursues any of the nine players offered to them when the transfer window reopens in the new year.

However, Donny van de Beek has spoken out about their new additions and stated that he is looking forward to playing alongside them.

When asked about the club’s newest assets, he replied, “I know them already as a player.”

“Some of the players I played against – I played against Christian, Casemiro, and Ajax.”

“Licha [Lisandro], I used to play with him. So I know what they’re capable of, and they’re incredibly fantastic players, so they’ll definitely help us.

“They are great people, yet they also work well with others.” Working hard together, I believe, is critical.

“As individuals, they mesh nicely with the guys we have.”

Van van Beek also stated that he hopes to prove his worth for United while also backing Ten Hag to succeed in the dugout.

“Of course, yes.” “I’m optimistic because I’m working so hard for it,” he remarked. “I’ll give it my all.”

“I was injured for the majority of last season, so I missed a lot of games.” I could feel it in the first couple weeks of preseason, but I’m feeling better and better now. So I’m very optimistic.

“He [Ten Hag] will be a great asset to the club.”

“I think he’s a terrific fit for what they want as a manager in terms of how the club is and how they want to play.”

“I’m very excited about it.” We had a lot of success at Ajax at the time, reaching the Champions League semi-finals and winning trophies. So that was a unique occasion.

“Now that we’re here, with a new chapter and a new task, we obviously want to do the same.”
