The captain of the Red Devils is in a difficult situation at Old Trafford, with his future uncertain. Following the arrival of Erik ten Hag at the club, he slid down the pecking order.

The Dutchman favored a center-back tandem of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, limiting Maguire to just 16 appearances in all competitions, with only half of those coming in the Premier League. He has been linked with a transfer away from United, and if he does, he may command a large cost.

The 30-year-old might receive a £10 million pay-out if he leaves, according to MailOnline. Maguire is unlikely to earn anywhere like the £190,000-per-week earnings he earns at United.

He is expected to make less than half of it elsewhere, forcing the Red Devils to pay only to get him off the payroll. The former Leicester City player has two years left on his deal, which he signed immediately after his £80 million move from the King Power Stadium.

Manager Ten Hag has already shown his interest in Maguire’s role at Old Trafford. He has consistently defended his professionalism while implying that a choice on his future should be made sooner rather than later.

He told The Times, “Let’s just say I’m glad he’s here, and when we needed him, he did his job.” But it’s also a choice he must make.

“No one would be happy in this situation, and he isn’t either. He always trains at the highest levels, putting forth 100% effort. So he manages that scenario effectively, and he’s vital for the squad because of his captaincy.”

This Saturday, Maguire could make his final appearance for the Red Devils. United face Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium, hoping to put an end to their treble bid.

Over the last year, the defender has been connected with a slew of clubs. West Ham United were rumored to be interested in him in January and could renew their interest in the coming months.

French behemoth PSG emerged as an unexpected alternative for Maguire, although the French club is due to sign Milan Skrinian from Inter Milan and is reluctant to spend substantially on another central defender.

Maguire has made 175 appearances for the Red Devils since signing from Leicester. He has scored seven goals in that time.
