Man Utd in talks with representatives of £26m star who could leave Bayern

Erik ten Hag has choices at right-back with Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, but 90min's Scott Saunders and Graeme Bailey report that Manchester United could sign Benjamin Pavard.

The 27-year-old could leave Bayern Munich this summer and will have plenty of alternatives, with Manchester City, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, and Barcelona among those interested.

Despite winning the Bundesliga, Pavard wants to leave Bayern.
Pavard joined Bayern from VfB Stuttgart in 2019 and has since made 162 appearances in all competitions, scoring 12 goals and assisting 12 others. The French international, who has represented his country on 47 occasions, has a contract expiring in 2024 and has indicated his desire to depart.

He had seven goals and one assist in 43 games this season as Bayern won the title on the final day, but according to Saunders and Bailey’s report, Pavard wants a new challenge in England, Italy, or Spain, so United isn’t wasting time trying to sign him – the Red Devils are already in talks with the defender’s representatives about a potential deal.

No one in the league has more interceptions than Dalot (1.4 per game), and only Casemiro has more tackles than the Portuguese international (2.1 per game), so he’s been an excellent option for Ten Hag. Only Dalot has more interceptions (1.2 per game) than Wan-Bissaka, and only Casemiro has more tackles (2.1 per game), indicating that both right-backs have been productive for United.

Having said that, Pavard has more tackles (2.3) and interceptions (1.5) per league game this season than Dalot and Wan-Bissaka, so it’s easy to see why Ten Hag would be interested. And, with an asking price of €30 million (£26 million), the 27-year-old might be a steal this summer.

Time will tell whether Pavard wants to leave the perennial Bundesliga champions for a United side that isn’t even close to winning a domestic crown in England, but talks have taken place and his rumored £116k-per-week pay won’t be an issue.
