The solemn service took place at St Andrew’s Cathedral in the heart of the city this morning. Lady Cathy passed away earlier this month at the age of 84, leaving the football world in mourning.

The congregation included not only David Beckham, 48, but also several former Manchester United greats, such as Darren Fletcher, 39, Gary Neville, 48, Nicky Butt, 48, Michael Carrick, 42, Ji Sung Park, 42, Bryan Robson, 66, and Steve Bruce, 62.

Scotland’s legendary football figure, Kenny Dalglish, 72, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, 50, and former Rangers assistant Archie Knox, 76, were among the attendees.

Following the service, Sir Alex Ferguson followed his late wife’s coffin out of the cathedral, sharing a handshake with Canon Andrew McKenzie, who presided over the ceremony.

David Beckham was seen mingling with fellow mourners outside on the pavement, opposite the River Clyde. While some of the mourners remained in a police vehicle overseeing proceedings, two officers observed from across the street.

Beckham engaged in conversations outdoors for nearly ten minutes before being whisked away in a Mercedes with tinted windows, leaving onlookers surprised.

Also present at the funeral were James Mortimer and Willie Haughey, two local businessmen.

Sir Alex, now 81, first crossed paths with Cathy in 1964 when he was just 23 years old and playing for Dunfermline Athletic. They married in 1966, shortly before he joined Rangers.

In his autobiography, Sir Alex wrote, “I had the good fortune to meet a wonderful girl who has been my rock for almost 50 years.”

The couple raised three sons – Mark, born in 1968, and twins Darren, who currently manages Peterborough United, and Jason, a football agent, born in 1972. They are also proud grandparents to 12 grandchildren.
