The international break has given Manchester United a chance to regroup and plan for the upcoming crucial weeks.

After winning the EFL Cup and securing Champions League qualification in his first season, Erik ten Hag is facing challenges in his second season, with six losses in 11 matches.

It’s clear that the squad needs more depth. While the summer transfer window saw the arrivals of Mason Mount, Andre Onana, and Rasmus Hojlund, they haven’t made the desired impact yet.

Hojlund has been successful in the Champions League but is yet to score in the Premier League.

United missed out on several transfer targets, including Victor Osimhen, Harry Kane, and Moises Caicedo. Ten Hag should consider making a more concrete effort to sign Joshua Kimmich in the January transfer window.

Towards the end of the previous transfer window, reports suggested that Kimmich was a key target for Ten Hag. With just two years left on his contract, it seemed like the ideal time for Bayern Munich to sell him.

United ended up signing Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina as a midfield reinforcement. While it was a loan move with an option to buy, the question remains whether the club should make a strong move for Kimmich in January.

Kimmich has had an illustrious career since joining Bayern in 2015, becoming one of Europe’s top midfielders.

He boasts impressive stats, with 358 appearances, 40 goals, and 99 assists. His trophy cabinet includes the 2020 Champions League and eight Bundesliga titles.

He is known for his winning mentality, versatility, and exceptional football intelligence, qualities that would greatly benefit United.

Jose Mourinho once praised Kimmich, highlighting his versatility and intelligence on the field.
