Real Madrid and David Alaba, who was also a priority for Barcelona, are said to have reached an agreement over a Bosman transfer this summer.

David Alaba is on the verge of joining Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports journalist Max Bielefeld.

Bayern Munich’s star player has agreed to a five-year contract, ignoring Barcelona in favor of their bitter rivals.

Alaba has had a fantastic decade with Bayern Munich, winning every trophy they have competed for at least twice during that period. The 28-year-old has made 427 appearances for the Bundesliga giants, scoring 33 goals and assisting on another 33. There are 53 assists in total.

He has impressed with his versatility, having played as a left-back, a center-back, and a central midfielder for Bayern Munich. Alaba, on the other hand, is expected to become a free agent in the summer transfer window after struggling to reach an agreement on a new contract,  Barcelona and Real Madrid were made aware of the situation.

DON’T MISS:

Real Madrid has had a long-standing interest in Alaba and has been linked with him on many occasions. However, the need to sign someone like Alaba ahead of the 2021/22 season has never been greater, with Los Blancos looking for a center-back as well as a left-back due to the uncertain futures of Marcelo, Raphael Varane, and captain Sergio Ramos.

According to sources, Alaba is one of Real Madrid’s top targets, with rumors circulating for months that they had a verbal agreement in place to sign him. However, the addition of Barcelona to the picture following the election of Joan Laporta as their new president complicated things.

DON’T MISS:

Despite their apparent plans to sign Eric Garcia from Manchester City, the Catalan giants’ interest in Alaba is not unfounded. Garcia is regarded as a long-term replacement for Gerard Pique, but with Samuel Umtiti expected to leave Barcelona this summer, the Catalan club could do with another center-back.

Furthermore, with Junior Firpo’s future at Camp Nou in doubt, Alaba may have been a viable option for the left-back role. However, Barcelona’s search of the Bayern Munich star seems to be over, with Real Madrid agreeing to sign him this summer.

According to Max Bielefeld, Alaba has agreed to a five-year contract with Real Madrid, which will be signed in the coming weeks. Barcelona, on the other hand, is no longer a choice for the 28-year-old, which means they must quickly look for alternatives, with Alessio Romagnoli being one of them. Real Madrid, on the other hand, seems to have won the race to sign Alaba.
