Five stars who Man Utd could sell this summer to help Ten Hag or Pochettino splash cash

The next summer for Manchester United is critical. Not only are talents like Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, and Edinson Cavani expected to go, but a new manager is slated to take over and try to guide the club back to glory. It is uncertain who that is as of yet, but there are stars willing to be sold in order to raise revenue. Express Sport looks at five other players who could be released this summer.

Harry Maguire

Maguire’s situation at United is deteriorating, and his performances are being scrutinized more closely with each passing week.

He isn’t a bad center-back; he knows how to play his way out of danger and is an excellent leader.

However, when compared to the league’s other title contenders, such as Virgil van Dijk, Ruben Dias, and Thiago Silva, Maguire is in a different league.

The incoming manager may decide to avoid Maguire’s blunders and sign a new center-back who they believe would solve their defensive problems.

Marcus Rashford

Rashford, born in Manchester, is another player who has yet to reach the heights anticipated of him this season.

Rashford was supposed to progress up the gears and become one of the Premier League’s finest strikers after being United’s poster boy in recent seasons, most notably in 2019-20, when he netted 17 league goals.

However, his dismal efforts this season have seen him strike only five goals in all competitions for the Red Devils – and with his pedigree still reasonably high at the age of 24, Rangnick could opt to trade him in order to bring in more targets for the new boss.

Eric Bailly,

Bailly only signed a new four-year contract a year ago, and many will be wondering why that agreement was sanctioned by United officials despite the Ivorian making only seven appearances this season.

He was hauled off at halftime in his first game of the season, a derby against Manchester City, after scoring his own goal.

And, with Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, and Axel Tuanzebe expected to be ahead of him in the pecking order next season, he could be sold to further his own career.

Dean Henderson,

Henderson has struggled for playing time at Manchester United this season.

Despite a stellar two-year stay at Sheffield United, the Cumbrian has been unable to cement a first-team berth due to David De Gea’s form.

With the Spaniard expected to stay for a long time, Henderson could be on his way to another Premier League team.

Brandon Williams,

Williams emerged onto the spotlight in 2019 with a string of left-back solid performances in place of the injured Luke Shaw.

The defender’s contract runs until 2025, making him a valuable asset for the Red Devils.

However, his dismal form at Norwich means he is unlikely to break into the first-team any time soon, and a fresh replacement may be brought in to really challenge Shaw.
