This article will go through the top ten highest-paid goalkeepers in the world. Football players are well-known for being among the world’s highest-paid athletes. In recent years, club wage bills have climbed considerably, but wage distribution has remained unequal, with strikers, midfielders, and wingers receiving the lion’s share.

Defenders and goalkeepers, on the other hand, are typically paid the lowest wages. Clubs are rapidly realizing that the best goalkeepers are essential to winning trophies.

As a result, a new elite class of goalkeepers has formed, earning as much as, if not more than, their teammates. Let’s take a look at the top ten highest-paid goalkeepers in the world.

  1. David  de Gea

David De Gea is the highest-paid goalkeeper in the world.

He is not only the highest-paid goalkeeper in the Premier League but also the second-highest-paid player in the league, trailing only Christiano Ronaldo. After much concern about his future with the 13-time Premier League champions, Manchester United offered the Spain international a lucrative deal last year.

De Gea’s current form slide has portrayed him as a clumsy goalkeeper who makes mistakes. While he is still one of the top goalkeepers in the world and occasionally makes incredible reaction saves, his recent form has painted him as a clumsy goalie who makes mistakes.

2. Jan Oblak

Jan Oblak ranks second among the top ten highest-paid goalkeepers in the world. Diego Simeone, manager of Atletico Madrid, recently compared Jan Oblak to Lionel Messi among goalkeepers, and given the Slovenia international’s consistency between the sticks for the La Liga club, the comparison doesn’t seem too far-fetched.

Oblak has stopped 636 of 819 shots faced in the Spanish top flight since joining Real Madrid, helping him win four straight Zamora Trophy and La Liga Goalkeeper of the Year titles between 2015 and 2019. Oblak also has the record for the quickest century of clean sheets, with his 100th coming in only 182 league appearances.

3. Keylor Navas

Keylor Navas is ranked third among the world’s top ten highest-paid goalkeepers. Keylor Navas gradually established himself as one of Europe’s greatest goalkeepers throughout his five-year tenure with Real Madrid, and his move to Paris Saint-Germain last summer will only increase his notoriety.

Last summer, the 33-year-old became the club’s first Costa Rican player, and he helped them reach their first UEFA Champions League final in his debut season. In 71 of his 213 league outings, he has kept a clean sheet.

The player is widely considered one of the best Latin American goalkeepers of all time, so it should come as no surprise that PSG pays him well.

4. Sergio Rico

Sergio Rico of Paris Saint-Germain is a talented goalkeeper who has established himself at Sevilla, Fulham, and now PSG, but he stands out among the list’s more accomplished goalkeepers.

The Spain international has had two loan spells since leaving Sevilla, the first with Fulham in the 2018-19 season and the second with PSG last season. In his few outings for the Parisians, he made such an impact that he was granted a permanent deal in September, which will keep him at the club until 2024.

5. Manuel Neuer

Manuel Neuer will be remembered as one of the best goalkeepers of all time, thanks to his incredible performances between the posts, outstanding trophy collection, and, most importantly, his involvement in creating the sweeper-keeper role in modern football.

With the exception of the European Championship with Germany, he is one of the most accomplished players of our generation, having won everything there is to win for club and country.

He joined a rare group of players in European football history who have won the treble twice with his role in Bayern Munich’s treble-winning season last season.

6. Thibaut Courtois

He is ranked sixth among the world’s top ten highest-paid goalkeepers. Thibaut Courtois, Belgium’s No. 1 goalkeeper, had a superb 2019-20 season, maintaining 18 clean sheets in 34 La Liga appearances while conceding only 20 goals. Real Madrid’s championship victory was primarily thanks to his outstanding goalkeeping efforts.

The Genk Academy alum has grown into one of the world’s best shot-stoppers, with a flair for making stunning reflex saves. He has twice won the La Liga and the Premier League, but he has yet to shine in the UEFA Champions League.

7. Kepa Arrizabalaga

It’s difficult to believe that Kepa Arrizabalaga, the current Chelsea goalkeeper, is the most expensive shot-stopper in the world. The Spaniard has struggled at Chelsea, frequently losing his starting spot to Edouard Mendy.

Kepa has a poor Premier League record, conceding 92 goals in 72 appearances while preserving only 22 clean sheets. The player is only 26 years old and has lots of time to improve his career, but it’s difficult to see him earning more than £150,000 a week at Chelsea.

8. Alisson Becker

While most goalkeepers can make a great save or kick, only a few can accomplish both whiles under pressure. Alisson Becker can perform brilliantly under strain while remaining calm. As a result, he is widely considered one of the world’s best goalkeepers, having won multiple titles along the way.

Liverpool boasts one of the world’s best squads, and goalkeeper Alisson was the final piece in Jurgen Klopp’s puzzle when the Reds won the Champions League and Premier League when he came in 2018.

The inaugural Yashin Trophy winner boasts a fantastic Premier League record, with 35 clean sheets in 70 games and 49 goals conceded. He has been absent due to injury this season, and his absence has already been felt in the team’s results, with Liverpool having conceded 11 goals.

9. Kasper Schmeichel

Kasper Schmeichel is another goalkeeper on the list of the top ten highest-paid goalkeepers in the world. Kasper Schmeichel has been with Leicester City through the ups and downs since arriving to the East Midlands from Leeds in 2011. He started his career with Manchester City.

The player was a significant member of the club that won the Premier League title in 2015-16 under Claudio Ranieri, and he played every minute of that season. He went on to keep 15 clean sheets as Leicester City’s fairytale season ended with them winning their first Premier League title.

He was awarded a new contract in 2018, and he and Jamie Vardy became the club’s highest-paid players ever, earning £130,000 per week.

10. Wojciech Szczęsny

Wojciech Szczesny is the final goalkeeper on the list of the top ten highest-paid goalkeepers in the world.

Wojciech Szczesny has played more minutes for Juventus in three seasons than he did for Arsenal in eight seasons. The Pole joined Juventus in 2017 as a backup for Gianluigi Buffon, but by 2018 had surpassed the Italian legend as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper, thanks in part to Buffon’s injury difficulties that season.

The fact that Juventus has made him the highest-paid goalkeeper in Serie A, with an estimated weekly remuneration of £130,000, speaks volumes about the club’s faith in the Arsenal reject.
