The Old Trafford squad has reportedly expressed discomfort with the tightness of the match socks around the calves, and some players have even resorted to cutting holes in them.

Consequently, some have been wearing replica socks since the second game of the season, as reported by the Daily Mail.

Adding to the issue, goalkeeper Andre Onana encountered problems with his jersey. After finding the match shirt too snug, he is said to have switched to a looser replica top.

This change allegedly came after United’s 2-1 win against Sheffield United last month.

Manchester United had recently renewed their kit sponsorship deal with sportswear powerhouse Adidas during the summer.

This nearly £1 billion deal guarantees United £90 million per year over ten seasons. Thus, reports of kit problems represent a significant embarrassment for both the club and the long-standing German manufacturer, which has been producing club gear for eight years.

Adidas has indicated that they expect to resolve the current kit issues within the next month. Nevertheless, for tonight’s Carabao Cup clash with Newcastle and their upcoming Premier League fixtures, United’s players will have to make do with replica kit items.
