Amid Manchester United’s ongoing crisis, former Red Devils star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has voiced doubts about Erik ten Hag’s future at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag has presided over a dismal start to the season, with United suffering four defeats in their first seven Premier League fixtures.

Furthermore, the team stumbled in their opening Champions League match against Bayern Munich a fortnight ago.

Before his tenure at Old Trafford, Ten Hag spent five years at Ajax, clinching three Eredivisie titles and two KNVB Cups.

However, Ibrahimovic is growing apprehensive that Ten Hag may not be the ideal fit for the star-studded United squad, which contrasts with the emerging talents he previously managed at Ajax.

“Transitioning from Ajax to United, as he did, entails a significant contrast—I’ve been part of both clubs. There’s a different level of discipline.

Ajax is a talent-focused club, housing the finest young talents but not big-name stars,” Ibrahimovic shared with TalkTV.

He continued, “What’s the coach’s experience? From handling young talents at Ajax, he comes to United, where it’s a different mindset. The players there are expected to be major stars. I don’t think you treat them the same way.

“How much time should you give a coach? It depends on the owners and their objectives. But, listening to the fans, it won’t be long because they desire victory. I understand them because they’re accustomed to winning, and they still want to win.”

Ibrahimovic also raised concerns about the Cristiano Ronaldo saga that unfolded last December, following an explosive interview, and the ongoing exile of Jadon Sancho.

He emphasized that United “must win” and indicated that Ten Hag is navigating between immediate success and a long-term project, prompting him to urge club executives to assess whether the Dutchman is the right fit.

“United must succeed, they must strive for victory in every competition they enter. Presently, they are overshadowed by neighboring Manchester City, and it’s a different scenario altogether. Everyone has a duty to meet the expectations,” he added.

“To get back on track, you need to define the right path and strive for it. You need a blueprint, a project to pursue. It feels like you’re following a project plan, and then it veers off course due to results.

“Either you believe in it or you don’t. But considering the coach’s situation, I believe he’s experiencing two different situations at the moment.

As for what happened with Sancho and Cristiano, I’m not sure. When things are going well, there are still flaws and issues, but they’re concealed because we’re winning.”
