When it comes to Mauricio Pochettino, many Manchester United fans are concerned about the Argentinian becoming the club’s next permanent manager.

Along with Erik ten Hag, the Paris Saint-Germain manager remains one of the frontrunners to take over at Old Trafford.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the players would choose Pochettino, while Ajax manager Ten Hag would prefer current temporary manager Ralf Rangnick.

Pochettino has piqued the interest of Old Trafford figures before, but that hasn’t stopped some fans from being concerned about his probable appointment.

Pochettino’s lack of silverware – particularly league titles – during his managerial career has caused some United supporters to question if he is qualified to take over.

The 49-year-old has had his chances, but has yet to seize them; he missed out on his best chance to do so while at Tottenham when Leicester won the Premier League title in 2016, and despite PSG’s dominance in France over the years, Lille beat them to the Ligue 1 title last year after Pochettino had only been in charge for five months.

However, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, who certainly knows a thing or two about winning trophies, insists that silverware isn’t required to be a top manager.

Guardiola remarked of Pochettino ahead of their November match against PSG: “Of course, you can be a fantastic manager without titles.”

“The managers who have a chance to win titles work for top, top clubs who have made significant investments and have excellent players. Otherwise, there is no way to win.

“This isn’t to say that managers in the Championship or Premier League, but outside the top six, can’t be outstanding managers in terms of tactics, communication, team leadership, and people beings.” To be a top manager, you don’t have to win championships.”

“I’m pretty confident the managers get better every year,” Guardiola remarked.

“Every season we go through, you learn a lot; I’m confident he’ll be a fantastic manager.”

Pochettino appears to be on the verge of breaking his league title drought this season, with PSG leading Ligue 1 by 13 points.

And there’s no doubt that if United hired him, they’d be getting a quality manager, albeit they’d have to move quickly because recent rumours suggest that Real Madrid may be interested in replacing Carlo Ancelotti.
