Fabrizio Romano rates Man United’s chances of signing FC Porto midfielder Fabio Vieira

According to Italian transfer insider, Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United is unlikely to sign Fabio Vieira from FC Porto in January.
Following his great performances for Porto so far in the 2021-22 season, the Red Devils have been linked with a January transfer window raid for Vieira.

Vieira, who has one goal in 14 games this season in the Primeira Liga, is said to be garnering interest from a number of elite clubs during the current transfer window.

Liverpool FC was linked with a move for the Portugal Under-21 international last summer, but the Reds were unable to complete a deal.

Manchester United scouts were believed to have visited Vieira in Porto earlier this month, although the Red Devils have been interested in the Portuguese prodigy since the summer.

Romano has put the brakes on thoughts of Manchester United signing Vieira in January – but the Italian journalist hasn’t ruled out a future deal.

“I don’t see it for January, but he’s one they’re watching for the future because he’s a talented boy,” Romano said on Wednesday’s Don Robbie podcast.

“It’s common for Manchester United to scout and monitor these young youngsters.” He is a player who many organizations are interested in signing in the future.

“I don’t see a move in January, but there could be something in the future.”

Vieira made his first-team debut for Porto in a 1-0 win over Maritimo in 2020.

The 21-year-old was a member of Porto’s Primeira Liga-winning club in 2020.

Vieira may join a strong Portuguese contingent at Manchester United, which already includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, and Diogo Dalot.

Romano went on to say that Newcastle is working hard to sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United before the January transfer window closes.

“Newcastle is putting pressure on us to get him as quickly as possible,” Romano added.

“They proposed a loan.” It’s not £10 million, but it’s roughly £4 million or £5 million to have him for six months. Man United is willing to negotiate.

“Lingard is unwilling to sign a long-term contract.” He merely wants to sign for six months and see what happens when he becomes a free agent in the summer and can decide his destiny.

“Newcastle wants Lingard, and he is a priority for them.”

Lingard has two Premier League goals in nine games this season.
