‘I will choose…’: ‘Great talent’ ManUtd reportedly bid once said he was ready to join another club

Manchester United are looking to replace David de Gea as their goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United may be given the opportunity to sign Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa before June 30, as the Portuguese club needs to generate just under £45 million before submitting their 2022/23 financial records to be in FFP compliance. The 23-year-old shot-stopper is one of several targets on Erik Ten Hag’s summer wishlist, however, the Red Devils are thought to prefer a move for Inter Milan’s Andre Onana.

Onana was a key member of Ten Hag’s former Ajax squad, and the Cameroonian’s stock has risen after his successful return from a lengthy suspension.

The Inter No. 1 caught the eye with his sharp passing in the Champions League final, but the Italian giants are demanding a sum in the region of £70 million for the 27-year-old.

Chelsea is also interested, although both Premier League clubs may suddenly be priced out of a deal.

That’s where Costa comes in, and according to the Portuguese publication A Bola, Porto is desperately seeking to raise cash in the next eight days in order to balance their accounts.

Although Porto would prefer to keep Costa, who is regarded as vital, his departure might assist them in generating revenue rapidly.

United had previously held informal talks about signing the Portugal international, but they have yet to formalize their interest.

Costa recently responded to rumors connecting him to Manchester United by reiterating his loyalty to Porto, where he has a long-term deal.

“That’s the internet,” he explained. It brings me joy and honor to play for my favorite club. What they say is what they say; there is no specific information; I have a contract till 2027 and expect to continue; let’s see.”

The United leadership is said to be looking for a new goalkeeper as one of their summer priority after losing faith in De Gea, who might yet stay and sign a new contract at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard has drawn interest from Saudi Arabia, and his future is now uncertain, with his contract set to expire at the end of the month.

Ten Hag has previously stated that he wants to keep De Gea, but the Spain international does not want to be demoted to the club’s No 2 goalkeeper.

“I will not say he will always be my No. 1 because, in a club like Man United, there must be competition in all positions,” the Dutchman previously stated.
