Jurgen Klopp, manager of Liverpool, has listed six Manchester United players with “genuine quality” who could affect his team on Monday night.

The Merseyside club travels to Old Trafford next week, hoping to reverse their season’s terrible start. Draws against Fulham and Crystal Palace in their first two games have been less than ideal, with Darwin Nunez now sidelined after a headbutt in the latter.

Meanwhile, United have been nursing their wounds following their thrashing at Brentford last Saturday. Erik ten Hag has already lost his first two competitive matches as manager of the Reds and is desperate for a win.

Following Klopp’s pre-match news conference, Ten Hag’s hopes may have been raised ahead of Monday’s showdown. “Football quality in midfield, whoever lines up: [Christian] Eriksen, [Bruno] Fernandes, Donny van de Beek, Fred, who Gabby [Agbonlahor] doesn’t like but I believe is a really excellent player, and [Scott] McTominay, there’s true quality there,” Klopp said of the United roster.

Klopp’s comments against Agbonlahor were in response to an earlier answer in which he criticized the former Aston Villa man’s thoughts on United following their defeat to the Bees. “It’s about how we cope with that,” he added.

“I witnessed both of their league games, and if we have to figure out whether he will change, what he will alter, and if we have no idea, then we have to attempt to discover it in the game.” Klopp would go on to call United’s forward quality ‘insane,’ before praising another player.

“I’ve heard [Anthony] Martial can probably play, he’s trained again and can play,” Liverpool manager Klopp continued. “He was another boy with technique and quickness who played against us [in pre-season].”
