Last Saturday, the Scottish star was at his dazzling best in a 2-1 triumph over Leicester.

McGinn, 27, who has played every minute under Gerrard thus far, has piqued the interest of Manchester United scouts, with new coach Ralf Rangnick thought to be a big fan.

Rangnick, a German, wants to turn United into a relentless pressing team, with SunSport reporting this week that McGinn is on United’s radar.

McGinn, a Villa player, was linked with a £50 million move to United in 2019 due to his family’s ties to Sir Alex Ferguson.

Fast forward to 2021, and McGinn has been in terrific form over the last three weeks, highlighted by a stunning goal against Crystal Palace.

Head coach Gerrard sent a message to those teasing him with a transfer away ahead of his side’s trip to Liverpool tomorrow, as well as a caution to the likes of United and Rangnick.

“John has been exceptional in every manner, on and off the field,” he remarked. I’d like to work with John McGinn for a long time, and we see him playing a key role in helping us drive Villa forward to be as successful as possible.”

“John has clearly been one of the more consistent players over the four games,” Gerrard remarked. I knew John before I walked in the door, and I knew he’d be the type of player who would break through a wall for me.

“Not only does he put in the effort, passion, and drive that he does, but he also plays with great quality.”

“Some of his passes was very impressive. So, I’m very impressed with John’s performance during the last several games.

“Right now, the problem for him is to stay in this place.” McGinn, of course, signed a five-year contract with Villa just a year ago, making him one of the club’s highest earners following a brilliant career in B6.
