Van de Beek has struggled for consistent game time at Old Trafford since his arrival in 2020, and his fortunes have not improved under interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Since the German’s appointment in December, he has played just seven minutes of Premier League football. The 24-year-old is clearly lower on the pecking order.

Rangnick has frequently employed Scott McTominay and Fred in midfield, with Nemanja Matic serving as a backup. Following a lengthy thigh injury, he will soon have the services of Paul Pogba.

As a result, United has four senior midfielders who may be preferred over Van de Beek. This could pave the way for him to get out of his loan before the transfer window closes on Monday night.

A number of teams are interested in signing Van de Beek, but Palace is now in ‘direct’ talks with United after submitting a straight loan proposal’ for the Netherlands international.

In our opinion:

Van van Beek wanted to join Everton on loan last summer, but then-manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer vetoed the transfer while promising him playing time.

However, the midfielder saw little action under Solskjaer before being fired. Rangnick has expressed a wish to maintain him, but he has been an infrequently utilized substitute in recent weeks.

Van de Beek would benefit from a temporary relocation. Due to a lack of playing time, Dutch manager Louis van Gaal has dropped him. He stands an excellent chance of being picked up for the World Cup.

Meanwhile, the decision would benefit the Red Devils because it would allow them to re-evaluate Van de Beek’s status in the summer. They can stick or twist with the playmaker depending on the new manager’s objectives.
