Raphael Varane is not among Manchester United’s training squad ahead of their return to Europa League action.

United will be trying to bounce back immediately after being thrashed 6-3 by Manchester City on Sunday, and they have a perfect opportunity to do so against Omonia Nicosia. Erik ten Hag faces a choice between fielding a strong lineup to give his first-team players a chance to redeem themselves and rotating heavily for the journey to Cyprus, especially with a challenging away day at Goodison Park coming up at the weekend.

Varane suffered an injury in the first half of the Etihad defeat and was being treated off the field when an unmarked Erling Haaland nodded in the second goal. Varane’s injury was regarded as “not terrible,” and he is not anticipated to be sidelined for long.

However, considering the Frenchman’s injury record since arriving at Old Trafford, United are erring on the side of caution, and he was not involved in the training session, thereby ruling him out of Thursday’s encounter. Harry Maguire, Donny van de Beek, and Aaron Wan-Bissaka were also absent from the session as they continue to recover from injuries.

Isak Hansen-Aaron, Maximillian Oyedele, Toby Collyer, and Omari Forson were among those that took part. The outfield group did not include any goalkeepers.

Dalot, Lindelof, Malacia, Martinez, Oyedele, and Shaw are the defenders.

Casemiro, Collyer, Eriksen, Hansen-Aaron, Fernandes, Fred, and McTominay are the midfielders.

Antony, Elanga, Forson, Martial, Sancho, Rashford, and Ronaldo are the forwards.
