Finally – Ten Hag wants Man Utd to sign former Tottenham man excelling in Spain as price tag emerges

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is apparently interested in a dynamic former Tottenham Hotspur player who has taken his game to the next level in Spain.

The Red Devils manager spent well over £200 million on acquisitions during the summer transfer window in order to make his imprint on the club. After finishing sixth the previous time out, it was evident that major changes would have to be taken. And the early indications of his reign have been promising.

Indeed, victories over Arsenal, Tottenham, and Liverpool have demonstrated exactly what United is capable of. But Ten Hag understands that in order to take his team to the next level, he will need to make some changes.

To that end, preparations for the January window are now underway. After parting ways with Cristiano Ronaldo, United manager Jose Mourinho wants to bolster his strikeforce. On the issue of Ronaldo, Ten Hag has finally let his emotions about the veteran star’s difficult leave get the best of him.

Cody Gakpo appears to be the obvious contender to come in, but there are several red flags surrounding the player, including his new £65 million asking price.

Ten Hag will also make a decision on United’s goalkeeper position. The contract of David De Gea expires at the end of the season. While the team does have a one-year option on him, they could also choose to let him go.

With that in mind, speculations that a deal for Yann Sommer is nearing completion are gaining traction.

United is preparing a move for Juan Foyth.
However, the key goal for the January transfer window could be the acquisition of a new right-back.

TEAMtalk exclusively revealed last month that the club has decided to let Aaron Wan-Bissaka depart, with two Premier League suitors vying for his services.

And bringing in competitors to contend with and cover for Diogo Dalot has become Ten Hag’s top priority.

To that aim, the Red Devils are apparently examining a variety of options, including Jeremie Frimpong, Max Aarons, and Denzel Dumfries.

According to Spanish media, Ten Hag is currently on the hunt for Villarreal defender Juan Foyth.

The Argentina defender has been with the Yellow Submarine since a transfer from Tottenham in 2020. The first loan was converted into a permanent £12.9m (€15m) contract in June 2021.

He has appeared in 76 games for Villarreal, scoring twice, and impressed with his performances.

Foyth, who made his name as a center-half, has also played as a right-back for El Madrigal.

That versatility to play across the defense has led to reports that Ten Hag is interested.

Chelsea is also allegedly interested in signing Argentina’s 16-time international.

However, United is said to be leading the race. According to the article, Villarreal is asking a sum of £36 million (€42 million) to contemplate selling the 24-year-old.
