The Netherlands international has recently dominated headlines as his future at the Nou Camp appears to be in jeopardy, with his former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag now in command at Manchester United.

According to the print edition of Sport, as cited and translated by Sport Witness, the Red Devils appear to be making progress in negotiations to sign De Jong.

The problem appears to be differences about the player’s price, with Barcelona reportedly asking up to €100 million for De Jong.

That seems a lot for someone who hasn’t exactly set the world on fire recently, but it’s clear why Ten Hag would want to work with the 25-year-old again.

Following a poor season in which none of Paul Pogba, Fred, or Scott McTominay impressed, De Jong makes sense as someone who may help United’s midfield next season.
