In the first match of the weekend, Liverpool edged Newcastle United 1-0 at St James’ Park on Saturday, before Manchester City quickly recaptured top status by beating Leeds United 4-0 at Elland Road.

In the meantime, Aston Villa won 2-0 at Norwich City, sealing the lowest side’s relegation, and Burnley continued their impressive revival under Mike Jackson with a late 2-1 win at Watford, who look poised to join Norwich in the Championship next season. Brighton defeated Wolves 3-0 at Molineux, while Crystal Palace defeated Southampton 2-1 at St Mary’s.

Everton beat Chelsea 1-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday, boosting their own survival hopes. Tottenham’s and Arsenal’s victories – 3-1 over Leicester City and 2-1 over West Ham, respectively – mean that the struggle for a third and fourth place amongst the three London rivals remains wide open.

Manchester United finished the week with a 3-0 victory over Brentford at Old Trafford on Monday night.
