David de Gea, the goalkeeper for Manchester United, has been nominated for the Premier League’s Player of the Month award for January.

The 31-year-old has had a fantastic season so far and is one of six players vying for the first league title in 2022.

De Gea was in outstanding form against Brentford and Aston Villa this month, making 22 saves and assisting the Reds to victories in both games.

United ascended into the top four with their most recent victory over West Ham, with De Gea called into action late in the game to secure a crucial victory.

Despite only keeping five clean sheets this season, the former Atlético Madrid goalkeeper has saved Ralf Rangnick’s team on several occasions, earning praise from both players and analysts.

De Gea leads all goalkeepers in Europe’s big five leagues in terms of saving anticipated goals (XG), saving 0.4 goals per game.

He has saved a whopping 7.5 goals in 19 appearances this season that his club would have given up if he had not been in goal.

As previously said, the Reds shot-stopper is up against five other players for the accolade.

Leeds United’s Jack Harrison and West Ham United’s Jarrod Bowen each scored four goals in January.

Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City and Joao Moutinho of Wolves are also nominated, with Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse completing out the list this month.
