The club declared their intention to employ an interim manager for the balance of the season after sacking Ole Gunnar Solskjaer on Sunday.

That hasn’t stopped United from putting together a shortlist of candidates to take over in the long run, with Pochettino reportedly being their first choice, with the Argentine reportedly keen on a move to Old Trafford.

However, a move for Pochettino is tricky because his contract with Paris expires in 18 months and the Ligue 1 giants are unwilling to release him.

While Ten Hag has a similar situation, Ajax is more understanding of his desire to advance his career.

The Dutchman is now United’s top pick to succeed Solskjaer, according to the Independent, because the board isn’t as ‘convinced’ of Pochettino as is being stated.

Despite being largely considered as one of the best coaches in the world, Pochettino has yet to win a trophy as a manager, and his time at Paris Saint-Germain has been challenging.

The Argentine has struggled to execute his style of play at the club, as well as dealing with high-profile players like Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

United’s short-term plan is to hire an interim manager. There have been interviews with Rudi Garcia, Ernesto Valverde, and Lucien Favre.
