Man Utd follow Ole Gunnar Solskjaer advice and activate clause for “dominant” star

Manchester United has activated a one-year contract extension for academy graduate Dylan Levitt, ensuring that he will either stay at the club until 2023 or depart for a fee during the summer transfer window.

Levitt, now 21, recognizes the importance of regular senior football in his development and hopes to play in this winter’s World Cup if Wales qualifies. The midfielder put up a mature performance for the national team on Tuesday, improving his chances of making the trip to Qatar if they beat Ukraine this weekend.

However, staying at United would jeopardize that position, with the chance that he would remain low in the pecking order despite a slew of departures in his position. Although Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic have already left, new manager Erik ten Hag appears set to bring in at least one new signing in the area.

Ryan Giggs, a Manchester United great, gave Levitt his international debut in 2020 and has been a prominent admirer of the academy graduate, labeling him his “kind of player.” “When Dylan was in the team, we had must-win games, so I couldn’t really throw him in and put him in that pressure cooker,” Giggs stated before Levitt made his senior debut.

“However, he’s one of the best in training.” He’s my type of player — a terrific character, quiet but tough – and one I’ll be keeping an eye on for the next year or two. I want him to grow, and if he does and plays more games, he’ll undoubtedly be considered. He’s a tremendously cerebral player with a good passing range who sticks out in every training session.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Giggs’ former colleague, granted him his professional United debut against Astana in the Europa League in 2019 and praised him and fellow academy standout James Garner for their performance.

“Some of them are knocking on the door for us,” he stated. We dominated midfield with Jimmy [Garner] and Dylan playing together, and it was great to see them dominate the game.”
