Manchester United is keeping an eye on 19-year-old Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko, called “the next Erling Haaland.”

Despite just scoring five league goals last season, many of Sesko’s Red Bull Salzburg teammates believe he is already better than Manchester City’s £51 million Nordic recruit. Bringing him to Old Trafford will be difficult, especially with Bayern Munich, Dortmund, and Newcastle all interested.

While Salzburg wishes to keep Sesko for at least another season, it’s believed that offers of up to £55 million would entice them to the table.

Comparisons to Haaland were almost certainly unavoidable for Sesko. Not only are they both lanky behemoths with a dangerous turn of pace who first drew attention in Austria, but they also have the same strange, arm-flailing running style!

“Such similarities [to Haaland] drive and energize me,” the teen told Goal. “They don’t represent stress. I will listen and learn so that I may outperform him.

“My club teammates say Haaland and I are extremely similar, especially in terms of pace.” Most of them even say I’m better than him!”

Buying a striker isn’t at the top of United’s priority list right now, but with Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at the club in doubt, they may need to go shopping before the window closes, and Sesko’s agency will get a call if that happens.

The Portugal international missed the club’s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia after submitting a transfer request last month in an attempt to force a move to a team competing in the Champions League next season – though, rather awkwardly, there doesn’t appear to be much interest in the 37-year-old.

For the time being, Ronaldo remains a part of Erik ten Hag’s plans, with United publicly stating that he is not for sale, but with over a month until the window closes, there is still time for things to change.
