Man Utd ‘choose Cristiano Ronaldo replacement’ and line up £84m bid after Haaland blow

According to rumors in Italy, Manchester United interim manager, Ralf Rangnick wants to replace Cristiano Ronaldo with Napoli striker Victor Osimhen. United is set to join the market for a new goalscorer during the summer transfer window, and the 23-year-old has been touted as a player of interest.

A cloud of uncertainty hangs over United’s team as the club embarks on a new chapter under the next – as of yet unnamed – permanent manager.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford are struggling, while Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, and Mason Greenwood are all facing uncertain futures at Old Trafford for various reasons.

Ronaldo is under contract until 2023, but Rangnick is growing impatient with the self-assured 37-year-old, who has only scored once in his previous ten outings.

And the German coach has identified Osimhen as a possible signing for United as they try to bolster their squad at the end of the season.

Rangnick wants to replace Ronaldo with Osimhen this summer, according to Italian journalist and Napoli specialist Ciro Venerato, via Tutto Napoli.

Venerato reports that the Serie A club is willing to trade Osimhen in the upcoming transfer window and that their resolve has already been tested.

The Nigeria international, however, will not be cheap, with club chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis reportedly valuing him at £84 million (€100 million).

Napoli, on the other hand, is bracing for the loss of Osimhen and has already questioned Sassuolo’s Gianluca Scamacca in order to replace him.

Rangnick stated earlier this month that it was ‘clear’ that United needed a new striker ahead of the 2022/23 season.

He stated: “This is self-evident [United require a new striker]. Edison’s contract expires in the summer, and the club requires the finest possible center forward. This is a no-brainer. I believe everyone is aware of this.”

And according to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils will ‘absolutely’ buy a young attacker during the summer transfer season.

Osimhen’s age and early experience at the top level would make him a suitable target for the club.
