Manchester United is exploring the prospect of securing Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy in the January transfer window, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils have encountered a challenging start to the season, marked by recent setbacks, including a defeat to Newcastle in the Premier League and a precarious position in the Champions League.
Scoring goals has emerged as a significant hurdle for the club, with just 16 goals in 14 top-flight matches.
Notably, summer signing Rasmus Hojlund, acquired for £72 million, is yet to open his account in the competition, amplifying the need for additional firepower in the squad.
In this context, Guirassy has become a focal point of United’s discussions, boasting an impressive record of 17 goals in 12 games across all competitions this season.
Romano revealed insights into the internal talks at Manchester United, citing the striker’s €17.5 million release clause as a pivotal factor.
During a discussion on the United Stand YouTube channel, Romano shared, “He’s [Guirassy] been discussed with Manchester United.”
Highlighting the rarity of a valid release clause in the January window, he emphasized the significance of the opportunity presented by the striker’s availability.
“There were meetings to discuss the opportunity and to explain how the release clause works,” Romano stated.
He went on to clarify that while Manchester United is contemplating the addition of a new striker in January, it is not a guaranteed move yet.
Guirassy is among the names being considered, and internal discussions are ongoing.
Romano acknowledged the widespread interest in Guirassy, indicating that several clubs, not only in England but also in Germany and Italy, are exploring the possibility.
Despite Stuttgart’s desire for him to stay until the end of the season, the likelihood of a concrete January exit for Guirassy is reportedly substantial.
