He believes that Harry Maguire ‘lacks a nasty streak’
Maguire has had a mixed season so far, missing three weeks of play after suffering a calf injury in United’s 1-0 loss to Aston Villa in September.
Since his comeback last month, the 28-year-old has been chastised for multiple errors during United’s terrible run, in which they have won just three of their past ten games in all competitions.
Premier League icon Roy Keane criticized the former Leicester center-back for his celebration after scoring for England against Albania on Friday night, describing Maguire’s actions as “embarrassing.”
While Cannavaro acknowledges that Maguire and Manchester City’s John Stones are the greatest two center-backs in England, he says they lack the venom that his Italian compatriot Giorgio Chiellini possesses.

‘Stones and Maguire have both shown promise in recent years. He told The Sun, ‘They can both play football, defend, and have no fear of anyone.’
They complement each other and the rest of the backline. They are benchmarks for Manchester City and Manchester United, and unquestionably the best English defenders.
‘When things get tough, they step up to the plate and aren’t scared to attempt new things.’
‘However, Chiellini still symbolizes the Italian defender’s mentality and the level of focus required to stop a striker in a critical situation.’
‘Maguire and Stones play a very different style of game and, at times, may lack a vicious streak. ‘Which Giorgio possesses.’
Despite the fact that Maguire lacked one key quality, Cannavaro was not surprised when United paid an eye-watering £80 million for him in 2019.
‘Good players like Maguire will always be valuable, and we shouldn’t be surprised when elite clubs spend that kind of money on exceptional players,’ he continued.
‘Great forwards sell seats, but great defenders win matches,’ we say in Italy.
