The 20-year-old prodigy’s quest for his maiden Premier League goal endures, despite his high-profile £72 million transfer from Atalanta this summer.

His frustrations reached a crescendo as he was substituted shortly after the one-hour mark at Bramall Lane, following Oli McBurnie’s equalizer from the penalty spot that nullified Scott McTominay’s opener.

In the end, Diogo Dalot’s second-half strike saved the day for Erik ten Hag’s team, securing all three vital points.

Nevertheless, former Chelsea legend Ruud Gullit opined that Hojlund’s teammates aren’t doing enough to facilitate his goal-scoring endeavors.

Speaking to Premier League productions (as reported by the Metro), Gullit voiced his concern: “I still think you have to get your striker on the scoresheet because if he gets on the scoresheet, he gains confidence, and then his teammates will be actively seeking to set him up.”

“They don’t seem to be actively seeking him out, despite his positioning being ideal for them to do so. Too many players are overly eager to score themselves, often opting to take a shot instead of passing to him.”

Gullit, drawing from his experience playing alongside Marco Van Basten, emphasized the value of feeding a confident striker, “I always thought if I give it to him, it’s a definite goal, whereas if I take the shot, it’s only a possibility.

Strikers are naturally self-focused and driven to score. Their happiness and confidence in the team significantly impact the overall performance.”

In contrast, Hojlund’s goal-scoring prowess shines brighter in the Champions League, notably with his first goal against Bayern Munich and a brace against Galatasaray, even though both matches ended in defeat.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag offered insights into his decision to substitute the Danish international in the 63rd minute against Sheffield United, explaining that it’s a part of their strategy to keep Hojlund in prime form.

Ten Hag clarified, “He often plays full games, but our idea is to manage his playing time.

It’s also a matter of internal competition, ensuring we maintain his sharpness. By rotating him in and out of games, and between games, we can preserve the team’s energy, focus, and freshness.”
